Pastor's Bio

Rev. Tommy Heaps is in his twenty-third year as Pastor at Mt. Bethel. He is a native of Franklin County, Alabama, and holds a B.S. degree in history and psychology and a M.A. degree in counseling from the University of North Alabama. He completed the United Methodist Course of Study at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University.
Tommy has served United Methodist Churches in the North Alabama Conference since 1971. Before his appointment to Mt. Bethel, he served Wesley Memorial, Mhoontown, Barton, Town Creek, and Monumental Park.
In addition to his pastoral ministry, Tommy is a guidance counselor with the Tuscumbia City Schools having held that position since 1985. He also held a position as a educational consultant for a mental health-counseling agency, and worked as the director of an alternative school program for a local school district.
Tommy is married to Charlotte, an English teacher with the Lauderdale County School System. They have a daughter, a senior at the University of North Alabama, and a son, a banker with Bryant Bank.
